Public Health Seminar. STREET2HOME: Continuum of Care for Medically Vulnerable Homeless

Description

Recorded January 26, 2015 Speakers: Paul Leon, R.N. P.N.H., CEO, Founder of the Illumination foundation Paul Cho, M.B.A. CFO, Co-Founder of the Illumination Foundation Abstract: STREET2HOME represents Illumination Foundation's answer to the current impasse in governmental policy making towards homelessness in Orange County. The Board of Supervisors has approved building a centralized 200 bed homeless shelter as the solution to homelessness, but is stymied by adverse community reaction. Illumination Foundation believes an alternate distributive model will provide a better long-term outcome. Illumination Foundation has been evolving the concept of recuperative care since 2008 providing post hospital recovery for homeless patients discharged from hospitals. During the last 18 months IF has been piloting a project called Chronic Care PLUS to provide long-term recuperative care and permanent housing to super utilizer chronically homeless individuals. STREET2HOME is IF's proposal for expanding the CCP model with medical outreach and community partnerships to implement an alternate solution to providing care for the Civic Center homeless population.

ESD.172J X PRIZE Workshop: Grand Challenges in Energy (MIT) ESD.172J X PRIZE Workshop: Grand Challenges in Energy (MIT)

Description

Includes audio/video content: AV selected lectures. In 2004, the Ansari X PRIZE for suborbital spaceflight captured the public's imagination and revolutionized an industry, leveraging a $10M prize purse into over $100M in innovation. Building from that success, the X PRIZE Foundation is now developing new prizes to focus innovation around "Grand Challenge" themes, including genomics, energy, healthcare, and education. This course will examine the intersection of incentives and innovation, drawing on economic models, historic examples, and recent experience of the X PRIZE Foundation to help develop a future prize in Energy Storage Technologies.
