Learning to Groove is an audio resource telling the story of the Tomorrow’s Warriors band as its young musicians learn the art of jazz. Jason Toynbee, leader of the What Is Black British Jazz research project at The Open University explains how this informal type of music education is playing an important and alternative role. Jazz musician Gary Crosby and his partner Janine Irons share their story of how they set up the band and why they feel so passionate about giving opportunities to inner city children to learn how to play jazz and to guide them on their way to future success in the music industry. Na 3 jaar als Llowlab aanwezig te zijn geweest op het Lowlands festival heeft de TU Delft er dit jaar voor gekozen om samen met de hogescholen op de campus een paviljoen te ontwerpen en te bouwen: Delft Experience Tomorrow (D-Exto). Het paviljoen doet dit jaar het Zomerfestival en het Indian Summer festival aan en beoogt een abstract begrip als duurzaamheid concreet en tastbaar te maken. Behalve door duurzame ontwerpen en producten te presenteren, bieden Delftse wetenschappers een inkijkje in de kennis die hierachter schuil gaat.

Casual observers and the millions who have tuned in to watch the Presidential debates might be unaware of the other important vote taking place tomorrow: cannabis legalisation. While the omission of any question on climate change during the three Presidential debates garnered widespread attention, the legislation of this soft drug was the second major absentee in the televised clash between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. The majority of forecasts point to Hilary Clinton winning tomorrow’s US presidential election. Several of the poll, market and expert forecasts with probabilities for who will win are helpfully summarised by the New York Times here. The polls-based predictions are all, apart from one, pretty confident that Clinton will win. At the time of writing, Drew Linzer’s model at Daily Kos puts the probability of a Clinton win at 87%, HuffPost has 98% and Sam Wang at the Princeton Election Consortium estimate is as high as 99%. 'How can we deal with our environment in a sustainable way?' The answer to this question is not easy to give. We are faced with all kinds of challenges related to a changing climate: how to build our houses and cities in a sustainable and climate proof way, how to ensure the safety of low lying areas like delta's, how to cope with greenhouse gasses. Delft engineers and scientists approach these issues in many different ways and from many different angles. Christopher Hood and Ruth Dixon explain the results of their recent project aiming to assess the effects of successive efforts to reform the executive government (the ‘state machine’) of the UK over the past thirty years. This project explores how those reforms played out, and how far they delivered on what had been claimed and expected of them. How much ‘leaner and meaner’ was the state machine after a generation of such changes? Such an exploration is not only an interesting study in its own right; it is also significant for assessing the prospects for the future of government in the coming decades, for example in assessing how government changed in the periods of cutbacks in the 1980s and early 1990s in the context of what is likely to be a period of prolonged fiscal

Recorded on January 28, 2014. Sarah E. Eichorn, Ph.D. Modern technologies are rapidly changing our instructional capabilities. The millennial students are inundated with engaging technologies in their social lives and are clamoring for similar engagement in their academic courses. I will share with you several innovative mathematics instruction initiatives being done at UCI to exploit these new technological capabilities and appeal to these millennial learners. The projects include: Calculus course coordination, online Pre-Calculus course, flipped class instruction (interchanging the lecture and the homework), Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in Algebra and Pre-Calculus, and public course on "Society, Science, Survival: Lesson's from AMC's The Walking Dead". Come learn about these teaching innovations, their implementation, and the assessment of the impact on student learning. We will also discuss future directions and what tomorrow's college math course might look like.

Buck (26), married, 40 Northumberland Street, was charged with stealing from a back yard situate at the above address, two sheets of the value of 6s, the property of George Perret. She was remanded until tomorrow for the purpose of calling a witness to speak on her behalf". The Shields Daily News for 3 February 1905 reported that Catherine Buck was fined 10s without costs.
