Description

Teoría geométrica del objeto arquitectónico con herramientas informáticas. Esta asignatura se ocupa del estudio de las formas espaciales relacionadas con la arquitectura y de su representación, mediante el uso de los medios informáticos. Puede considerarse, en parte, como una profundización y ampliación de los conocimientos adquiridos por el alumno en Geometría Descriptiva; por otro lado, supone la aplicación, según los medios informáticos, de conceptos referentes a la expresión gráfica aprendidos en otras asignaturas de este mismo Área. Description

El curso trata de mostrar una visión amplia de las técnicas que se recogen bajo la denominación de Investigación Operativa (IO), agrupándolas en tres grandes bloques (métodos deterministas, métodos probabilísticos y otros métodos como simulación, toma de decisiones, participación pública). Dentro de cada bloque se expone brevemente en qué consiste cada método y se acompaña con ejemplos y ejercicios de aplicación. La materia contenida en la asignatura está directamente relacionada con el desarrollo de software en entornos industriales y sistemas de alta integridad. En general se aplicará a sistemas en los que, debido a su interacción con entornos físicos, tienen gran importancia el cumplimiento de tiempos de respuesta deterministas y la seguridad e integridad del sistema. Son muchos los ámbitos de aplicación de esta materia, pudiendo citar entre ellos: automoción, robótica, ingeniería espacial, aviónica, domótica o sistemas multimedia. Esta asignatura pretende cubrir prácticamente todas las fases del ciclo de vida de un sistema de tiempo real, por este motivo está directamente relacionada con varias asignaturas de su contexto. Includes audio/video content: AV lectures. 6.890 Algorithmic Lower Bounds: Fun with Hardness Proofs is a class taking a practical approach to proving problems can't be solved efficiently (in polynomial time and assuming standard complexity-theoretic assumptions like P ≠ NP). The class focuses on reductions and techniques for proving problems are computationally hard for a variety of complexity classes. Along the way, the class will create many interesting gadgets, learn many hardness proof styles, explore the connection between games and computation, survey several important problems and complexity classes, and crush hopes and dreams (for fast optimal solutions). The Renaissance has justly become both famous and notorious as an age of discovery, and its voyages took place in many realms. This semester, we will read several history making narratives of early modern travel: first-hand accounts of discovery, captivity, conquest, or cultural encounter. As Europeans came to acquire experience of unfamiliar places, literary texts of the period began to assimilate this experience by describing imagined voyages across real or fantastic landscapes. Finally, voyages of exploration served Renaissance writers as a metaphor: for intellectual inquiry, for spiritual development, or for the pursuit of love. Among the literary genres sampled this semester will be sonnets, plays, prose narratives, utopias, and chivalric romance. This course investigates the relationship between urban architecture and political, social, and cultural history of Athens in the 5th and 4th centuries BC. It surveys and analyzes archeological and literary evidence, including the sanctuary of Athena on the Acropolis, the Agora, Greek houses, the histories of Herodotus and Thucydides, plays of Sophocles and Aristophanes, and the panhellenic sanctuaries of Delphi and Olympia. In analyzing fiscal issues, conventional public finance approaches focus mainly on taxation and public spending. Policymakers and practitioners rarely explore solutions by examining the fundamental problem: the failure of interested parties to act collectively to internalize the positive externalities generated by public goods. Public finance is merely one of many possible institutional arrangements for assigning the rights and responsibilities to public goods consumption. This system is currently under stress because of the financial crisis. The first part of the class will focus on collective action and its connection with local public finance.
