Los procesos gastrointestinales constituyen uno de los hallazgos clínicos más frecuentes en la práctica veterinaria de pequeños animales. La técnica endoscópica ofrece en este campo una gran seguridad diagnóstica, gracias a la posibilidad de obtener biopsias en los diferentes tramos explorados. Los objetivos específicos de este curso de Endoscopia son formar a los alumnos en la utilización y manejo del endoscopio y la toma de biopsias de las diferentes porciones del aparato digestivo, con fines diagnósticos. Description

The course, which spans two thirds of a semester, provides students with a research-inspired laboratory experience that introduces standard biochemical techniques in the context of investigating a current and exciting research topic, acquired resistance to the cancer drug Gleevec. Techniques include protein expression, purification, and gel analysis, PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, kinase activity assays, and protein structure viewing. This class is part of the new laboratory curriculum in the MIT Department of Chemistry. Undergraduate Research-Inspired Experimental Chemistry Alternatives (URIECA) introduces students to cutting edge research topics in a modular format. Acknowledgments Development of this course was funded through an HHMI Professors grant to Professor Catherine L. Drennan. Description

A resource stub for the pathophysiology of the digestive system. The resource stub refers to an online resource, and provides access to a hypertextbook on the pathophysiology of the digestive system, and is aimed at both beginners and advanced learners. The book provides a general introduction and background to the digestive system and its functions, and offers a tour of the digestive system, covering pregastric digestion, the stomach, the liver and biliary system, the pancreas, the small intestine, and the large intestine. This seminar has three purposes. One, it inquires into the causes of military innovation by examining a number of the most outstanding historical cases. Two, it views military innovations through the lens of organization theory to develop generalizations about the innovation process within militaries. Three, it uses the empirical study of military innovations as a way to examine the strength and credibility of hypotheses that organization theorists have generated about innovation in non-military organizations. Description

Gastrointestinal diseases are one of the most frequent clinical findings in small animal veterinary practice. Endoscopic technique is an accurate diagnostic method due to the possibility of obtaining biopsy samples in the different segments of the gastrointestinal tract. The specific aim of this course on endoscopy is to teach students to use the endoscope, including biopsy sampling, for diagnosis. Besides, the most important gastrointestinal diseases will be described and relevant clinical cases will be presented, in order to teach the students how to manage them. At the end of the course, students should be able to handle the endoscope and adequately understand the endoscopic technique, both for clinical and research purposes. Techniques in Molecular Biology

Description

This articulate presentation describes some of the basic techniques in molecular biology with particular emphasis on the use of plasmids as cloning vectors. The theory behind the techniques used to isolate plasmid DNA, carrying out restriction digests, pcr and running agarose gels is described in detail, supported by animations to illustrate the text. Quizzes are interspersed within the body of the presentation to test the users understanding throughout.

Wright's Biscuits Packaging

Description

Heres a studio shot of Wright's Biscuits in South Shields, photographed by Turner's. Wright?s Biscuits was a well known company in South Shields, South Tyneside. Set up as a maker of biscuits, they started out by supplying their stock to ships in 1790, but after a fall in demand, Wright's turned to making more up-market biscuits. Wright's Biscuit factory closed in 1973. Turner?s was established in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1900s. It was originally a chemists shop but in 1938 become a photographic dealer. Turners went on to become a prominent photographic and video production company in the North East of England. They had 3 shops in Newcastle city centre, in Pink Lane, Blackett Street and Eldon Square. Turner?s photographic business closed in the 1990s. Human Anatomy

Description

This course will provide the student with an overview of the body from a systemic perspective. Each unit will focus on one system, or network of organs that work together to perform a particular function. At the end of this course, the student will review the ways in which the systems overlap, as well as discuss current body imaging techniques and learn how to correctly interpret the images in order to put our newly-gained anatomical knowledge to practical use. Physiology is the study of the processes of the body. This course is about the unconscious mechanics of living; the student will look at each organ system in detail and then discuss the ways in which the systems interact in order to maintain the body at an optimal state.
