DATUM for Health: Research data management training for health studies

Description

The DATUM for Health training programme is aimed at postgraduate research (i.e. doctoral) students (PGR) in health studies, including those whose PhD has a health focus but who are not necessarily registered in a school/faculty of health/medicine (e.g. in psychology, social sciences). The programme covers both generic and discipline-specific issues, focussing on the management of qualitative, unstructured data, and is suitable for students at any stage of their PhD. It aims to provide PGR students with the knowledge to manage their research data at every stage in the data lifecycle, from its creation to its final storage or destruction. Students learn how to use their data more effectively and efficiently, how to store and destroy it securely, and how to make it available to a wider audien

Research Data Management Training Module :; Project Planning

Description

This module introduces data management plans and the considerations that should be made during the planning stage of a project. After an introduction to funding body requirements and the benefits of sharing data to research, the DMPonline tool is promoted as the prefered method of completing a data management plan, as required by funding bodies. Finally, a brief breakdown of the content of data management plans and advice on completing them is included. Slides and training notes are included in this pack in one collection, but can be divided into three sections: an introduction to RDM, data management plans, and the project lifecycle, to be used separately.

Widening participation: the Winter Games and investment in facilities

Description

England has never been known for its majestic mountain ranges, or for its epic year-round snowfall. Nor are the British public known for their expertise in, and enthusiasm for, snow sports such as skiing, slalom, bobsleigh, skeleton or snowboarding. How then, did an English athlete manage to demonstrate a Gold-medal winning performance in the Skeleton event that claimed victory over all of the other great snow sports nations such as Austria, Switzerland, Canada and the US?

Research Data Management Training Module 2: Getting Started

Description

This module highlights research data management issues that should be addressed when starting a project: choosing file structures and naming conventions, file versioning, metadata and documentation, software choices, and the best practice for programming. Considering these details before data collection ensures that the data are well managed and organised, and require fewer transformations when preparing them for publication. Slides and training notes are included in this pack in one collection, but can be divided into five sections: filing systems, metadata, software, documentation, and coding.

Genderisation and sexuality of the female Olympic athelete

Description

Clayton (2002) argue that tennis player Anna Kournikova represents the most powerful symbol of genderisation in sport. Such a supposition is interesting as Kournikova, while successful, never really achieved dominance in her game, instead being better recognised in recent years for her modelling and celebrity profile. The image of Kournikova is, no doubt, a sexualised one

DSpace as a LOR Presentation to the UoC UNESCO Chair in e-Learning

Description

This item contains a joint presentation given to the UoC UNESCO Chair in e-Learning by Jorum and the NDLR which happened on the 13/12/10 in Barcelona. As part of the presentation, a number of screen capture movies were shown during the feature demonstration section - these are attached to the item. The presentation was made by Gareth Waller (Jorum) and Bob Strunz (NDLR) and highlighted the modifications both projects made to DSpace in order to support learning and teaching materials.
