This xerte on-line toolkits resource has been produced as part of the JISC funded BERLiN (Building Exchanges for Research and Learning in Nottingham) project run by The University of Nottingham from April 2009 - April 2010. The project aimed to publish and share the equivalent of 360 credits of Open Educational Resources (OERs), enhance and expand Nottingham's existing Open Educational Repository (U-Now) and foster OER use and reuse. This open educational resource aims to share knowledge gained from involvement in the BERLiN OER project, develop open content literacy and explore perspectives, attitudes and approaches to open learning. Control systems analysis for engineers

Description

This site contains links to resources for an introduction to control analysis for second year engineering undergraduate.The main focus is on block diagrams, offsets, pole computations, understanding stability/instability, root-loci, bode, nyquist, margins and an introduction to lead and lag compensation. The focus is on analysis not design which is covered in a later course. The resources here include the lecture hand outs which include embedded tutorial questions, some powerpoints for structuring lectures, some games/quizzes for lectures, a MATLAB laboratory based on significant prior practice, a FLASH lecture and then a formal laboratory test under exam conditions and a small data base of CAA developed on webct (here provided in a zip file). Introduction to modelling for 1st year engineers

Description

These resources cover an introduction to modelling for first year engineering undergraduate. The main focus is on electrical and mechanical systems, but there is also some discussion of dc motors, fluids and heat as well as an introduction to time series modelling. The main emphasis is on why modelling is important and how to go about doing this from first principles (e.g. Kirchhoff's laws, Newton's Laws, etc.). Given the focus is on new students arriving at University, there is no attempt to develop models beyond second order. Using MATLAB for engineers

Description

Introductory course on learning and using MATLAB aimed at 1st year engineering undergraduate. These were developed at the University of Sheffield and authored by J A Rossiter from The Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering. The files include a slightly animated power point slide (runs via web) which includes audio. Hence a little like a lecture. The source m-files mentioned are also supplied in the zip files mentioned. These m-files cover a group of topics. Read the instruction file to learn how to make 'lectures' available to students.
