This unit builds on the combinational logic design studied in Unit DG3C 34. It uses the model of a sequential machine to introduce the idea of memory and develop the basic techniques and terminology associated with the design of sequential circuits. Outcomes Demonstrate an understanding of sequential logic devices, circuits and design. Design, simulate, build and test sequence generators and sequence detectors.

This course aims to help students acquire both the mathematical principles and the intuition necessary to create, analyze, and understand insightful models for a broad range of these processes. The range of areas for which discrete stochastic-process models are useful is constantly expanding, and includes many applications in engineering, physics, biology, operations research and finance.
