The stage
Description
This interactive learning object explores the theatrical stage and set design. Using text, illustrations and animations, together with interactive tasks for students to perform online, this resource explains what is meant by scenic design as well as the role of the scenic designer, introduces the concept of illusion of space, and discusses alternative stage and performance areas such as theatres in-the-round. An assessment quiz accompanies the resource which allows students to test and consolidate what they have learned. A number of additional tools are provided to enhance students' experience of the resource, such as a magnifying glass, colour changer, notepad and calculator.

Coloured lighting effects
Description
This interactive learning object is aimed at students wishing to study the dynamics of how lighting effects can transform the way we look at a scene. Particular attention is paid to exploring how light can create theatrical effects, or to depict the time of day or year. The use of lighting gels is the main focus and students can use the resource to experiment with the effects of different combinations of gels. Health and safety issues are also considered. An accompanying assessment tests and consolidates what students have learned, and a number of additional tools are available to enhance their experience of the resource. These include a magnifying glass, notepad, calculator and colour changer.

Writers work on sustained pieces in weekly workshop meetings, individual consultation with the instructor, and in collaboration with student actors, directors, and designers. Description
This is an intermediate workshop designed for students who have a basic understanding of the principles of theatrical design and who want a more intensive study of costume design and the psychology of clothing. Students develop designs that emerge through a process of character analysis, based on the script and directorial concept. Period research, design, and rendering skills are fostered through practical exercises. Instruction in basic costume construction, including drafting and draping, provide tools for students to produce final projects.

This course covers the thermo-fluid dynamic phenomena and analysis methods for conventional and nuclear power stations. Specific topics include: kinematics and dynamics of two-phase flows; steam separation; boiling, instabilities, and critical conditions; single-channel transient analysis; multiple channels connected at plena; loop analysis including single and two-phase natural circulation; and subchannel analysis.Starting in Spring 2007, this course will be offered jointly in the Departments of Nuclear Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering, and will be titled "Thermal Hydraulics in Power Technology."
