Description
This course deals with the transfer of work, energy, and material via gases and liquids. These fluids may undergo changes in temperature, pressure, density, and chemical composition during the transfer process and may act on or be acted on by external systems. Engineers must fully understand these processes in order to analyze, troubleshoot, or improve existing processes and/or innovate and design new ones. This free course may be completed online at any time. See course site for detailed overview and learning outcomes. (Mechanical Engineering 303)Subjects

Description
Modelling pollution in the Great Lakes: a review is the fifth and final course in the series on mathematical modelling. In this free course we revisit the model developed in the first course of this series on pollution in the Great Lakes of North America. Here we evaluate and revise the original model by comparing its predictions against data from the lakes before finally reflecting on the techniques used. This course assumes you have studied the courses Modelling pollution in the Great Lakes Analysing skid marks Developing modelling skills and Modelling heat transfer.License

In this free course you will be hearing and reading about the issues faced by people living in poverty in Britain in 2000. This is intended to give you an understanding of what poverty is like from the perspective of the people themselves both in terms of the experience of living on a very low income and some of the effects this has had on their lives. One of the biggest problems facing people living on a very low income is how to afford adequate heating.License

Description
Energy from sources other than fossil and nuclear fuels is to a large extent free of the concerns about environmental effects and renewability that characterise those two sources. Each alternative source supplies energy continually whether or not we use it. This free course considers one of these alternative sources geothermal energy derived from the interior heat of the Earth and the potential for this alternative to supplant fossil and nuclear fuel to power social needs fast enough to avoid the likelihood of future global warming and other kinds of pollution.License
