It feels wrong to watch the news about Syria and the Central African Republic night after night without seeing any effective international action being taken to stop the killing, displacement and rape. After millions of civilians were killed in the Second World War, the United Nations was set up specifically “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war”. So why doesn’t it? Hugo Slim investigates the current state of international politics regarding the legitimacy of humanitarian intervention and the responsibility to protect. See all metadataA day in the life : Somie village, province de l'Adamaoua, Cameroon
Description
This resource features a series of video clips taken in Somie, a village in Cameroon, at approximately one hour intervals throughout the period 6am-7pm of Wednesday 21 April 1999. The clips were taken in three locations: the central village square; a crossroads near the village dispensary; and outside the ethnographer's house in a residential part of the village. Clips may be viewed individually or simultaneously: for example, students can simultaneously view the 6am clips from all three locations, or all the clips from one particular location, for comparative purposes. Introductory text is provided, as are ideas for activities based around the clips, and questions to generate discussion.Subjects
