Description

Information Technology I helps students understand technical concepts underlying current and future developments in information technology. There will be a special emphasis on networks and distributed computing. Students will also gain some hands-on exposure to powerful, high-level tools for making computers do amazing things, without the need for conventional programming languages. Since 15.564 is an introductory course, no knowledge of how computers work or are programmed is assumed. Description

This unit is designed to develop an understanding of complex database design. The unit is primarily for candidates moving into managerial positions for which the storage and analysis of information is becoming increasingly important. There are three outcomes: 1. Analyse and evaluate an existing database and apply advanced design principles to improve the performance of the database. 2. Import data from an external source and design and use complex forms to aid the inputting of new data. 3. Create and use complex queries to manipulate data and to aid decision making.
