e-PDP implementation using Mahara at Adam Smith College

Description

The college has been delivering Personal Development Plans (PDPs) to the students using paper based handouts, which is an ongoing process that includes self-reflection of their learning, as well as objectives and goals setting. However due to the cost and engagement aspects of producing and using these booklets, the e-learning team and guidance team have collaboratively investigated ways in which the PDPs could be integrated into the curriculum, using some of the current e-learning tools available. http://www.rsc-scotland.org/?p=2101

e-Portfolios at Dumfries and Galloway College, DGMySpace

Description

Only 4 short years ago some Dumfries and Galloway College staff were involved in the ISLE (Individualised Support for Learning through ePortfolios) Transformational Project. This project gave the staff an introduction in to how ePortfolios could be used for the benefits of the learners. Unfortunately, staff felt that ultimately the project didn’t quite go far enough with the implementation of the project outputs.

Using e-Portfolios to create a learning community and to support assessment and reflective practice at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly the RSAMD)

Description

Creating a learning community and supporting assessment and reflective practice are key aims for those working in FE and HE. It is something staff at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (the RSAMD at the time of recording this case study) have been focusing on and using the ePortfolio tool, Mahara, to support. Staff and students have been making use of the opportunities to incorporate rich multi-media, to blog, upload videos of performances and more to enable reflection on practice, assess in more effective ways and foster inter-disciplinary engagement across the institution.

Using an e-Portfolio system (Mahara) with Beauty Therapy Students at Clydebank College

Description

Under the auspices of a Leonardo funded European project, VTCT Beauty Therapy Level 3 learners undertook a two week placement period in June 2010 within various beauty therapy establishments in Rimini, Italy. As well as acquiring valuable experience within various beauty therapy establishments in terms of techniques, practices and resources in a different European country, students would document their experience using an ePortfolio system which could be shared for other groups and contribute to their future studies. The Project received a Highly Commended award under the category of Learner Engagement at Scotland’s Colleges Annual Awards 2010.
