Description

Information Technology I helps students understand technical concepts underlying current and future developments in information technology. There will be a special emphasis on networks and distributed computing. Students will also gain some hands-on exposure to powerful, high-level tools for making computers do amazing things, without the need for conventional programming languages. Since 15.564 is an introductory course, no knowledge of how computers work or are programmed is assumed. A postcard of the Jarrow Ladies Fire Brigade taken during the First World War in 1916 (TWAM ref. 5625). The postcard is unused. This set celebrates the many postcards in our collections. The people, places and events they show can give us an insight into the past, documenting the landscape, the fashions, the way we lived. Some postcards are unused but others tell us something about the people who bought them, through the messages they wrote. They can give us a fascinating glimpse into people?s lives. This lecture shows how?to calculate the required fire resistance of un-insulated and insulated load bearing structural members such as columns and beams on the basis of a simple calculation method and according to ENV 1999-1-2; it points out more refined methods of analysis with the aid of computer programs; it presents some approved and existing fire resistance rated applications, e.g. in the off-shore industry. Background in structural engineering and some familiarity with TALAT lectures 2501-2503 is assumed.

6.857 is an upper-level undergraduate, first-year graduate course on network and computer security. It fits within the department's Computer Systems and Architecture Engineering concentration.
