This interactive learning object explores various techniques and tools that can be used to create engaging web pages. It briefly traces the history of web design and developments such as the use of animated gifs, roll-overs, image maps, hot-spots and image slicing. It examines how Macromedia Flash works to create animations and display video, with a comparison of vector and bitmap images, and discusses the use of ActionScript to create interactivity. Brief mention is also made of the use of Flash in games, and Flash plugins. An accompanying assessment item tests and consolidates what students have learned, and a number of additional tools enhance students' experience of the resource.
