Description
Overview: This learning object is a simulated laboratory experiment (experimental investigation of pressure measurements), which closely mimics the features of actual laboratory apparatus for measuring pressure, with an output of the associated data. The unlimited model scenarios provide realistic experience with the opportunity for deep learning. Appropriateness: Students studying Engineering at the Faculty of Advanced Technology undertake a 10-credit module aiming to give a basic introduction to instrumentation and its applications. The assessment used to address this learning outcome is a laboratory assignment in which students are required to calibrate a pressure sensor and subsequently use it to investigate transient pressure response of a pneumatically charged system. In this respectSubjects

This RLO takes an interactive tour of the house of a person with Learning Disabilities. As the owner of the house shows us around we are introduced to aspects of "Careless Care." That is to say the small things that we take for granted in our own homes, but may be overlooked in such a supported living environment. The content for the resource was developed by student learning disability nurses. It formed part of a project to develop resources that would inform and challenge other health care professional students about their interactions with people with learning disabilities. Poor attitudes and a lack of understanding of this client group by health care professionals has been shown to result in serious consequences, as highlighted by the 2007 Mencap report "Death By Indifference" TheSubjects

NoteMaker is an innovative and practical tool that enables a user to practice notemaking and to generate Cornell, Pattern and Linear notes at the click of a button. NoteMaker has four key features, 1. The notes are saved on the users' PC, and are readily accessed when the user returns. 2. Notes can be viewed in alternative formats with just one click. 3. NoteMaker is user centred; a user chooses their own content for notemaking (YouTube, or other web resources) 4. NoteMaker can be easily repurposed for any academic context, and across disciplinary boundaries. In all our pilots, students commended NoteMaker as a great aid to their academic development.Subjects

This is a reproduction of the Second Life Sami tent and is for free distribution within Second Life as a repurposable OER. It is available in two clearly identified forms: 1. As a single SL artefact, where all discrete items have been linked together to make a whole. 2. As a number of discrete SL artefacts. In addition, this OER includes two SL training guides: one for students and one for tutors. Users are encouraged to first read the 'Handout for the Sami tent OER' .Subjects

The Virtual Pain Manager (VPM) is a simulation of a patient control analgesia (PCA) machine, and teaches both the use of the machine and the provision of associated nursing care in a hospital setting. Naturally, student nurses cannot be allowed free rein of real patients as the risks are too great. They cannot be allowed to make mistakes with the health of real people. However, in the virtual world they are free to make mistakes and—crucially—learn from them in an environment in which no harm can be done. There is great value in being able to learn from your mistakes, and often more may be learnt from understanding an error than through success. Scenario VPM allows student nurses to experience a clinical situation which in real life they would not be able to undertake: managing acute pSubjects

Making group-work work is designed to help both students and tutors manage the challenges of group work. The resource is web-based and free to use worldwide. It includes video, audio, discussion points and a full range of additional resources. The resource follows five students through a group project; starting with their first meeting through to an evaluation of the group presentation. Broken down into ten discrete episodes, the resource is designed to be used linearly or as independent episodes. The emphasis of the resource is to provoke discussion and individual reflection rather than provide solutions.License
