Traditional finance and other business courses analyze a broad spectrum of factors affecting business decision-making but typically give little systematic consideration to the role of taxes. In contrast, traditional tax accounting courses concentrate on administrative issues while ignoring the richness of the context in which tax factors operate. The objective of the course is to bridge this gap by providing a framework for recognizing tax planning opportunities and applying basic principles of tax strategy. An Introduction to Vision, Mission and Values

Description

This is a learning activity to introduce the concepts of vision, mission and values, both in an organisational and personal context. It will explore the differences between vision, mission and values, whilst acknowledging their mutually dependent nature. There will be the opportunity to analyse examples of organisations' statements. The values underpinning mission and vision statements will also be examined with an exploration of differences between profit making and non-profit making organisations. There will be consideration given to personal values and their role in shaping the individual and their employment choices. The concept of personal mission statements (often contained in CVs) will also be developed.

Robbie Shilliam, Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Queen Mary, University of London, gives a talk on 19th Jan 2012 for the Historical Materialism and International Relations seminar series. The Historical Materialism and International Relations seminar series seeks to explore and develop the multiple points of contact between Marxist theory and international relations, most broadly defined.
